据央视新闻报道，记者从北京大学获悉，6月17日，我国翻译界泰斗、北京大学新闻与传播学院教授许渊冲先生在北京逝世，享年100岁。
Xu Yuanchong, China's most renowned master translator, died in Beijing at the age of 100 on Thursday, according to Peking University.

被誉为“诗译英法唯一人”，也被称为“译界狂人”的许渊冲，曾这样告诉CGTN记者，“‘书销中外百余本，诗译英法唯一人。’ 这好像是我的老师说我的。这是事实嘛。”

With over 100 books sold at home and abroad, he’s the only one who translates Chinese poetry into both English and French. “That’s what my teacher said about me, and it is the truth.” Xu Yuanchong made the remarks when discussing his translation works during an exclusive interview with CGTN.
许渊冲毕生钟情翻译中国古典诗文，将一生的心血都奉献于此，共完成了一百多本译作，包括《诗经》《楚辞》《李白诗选》《西厢记》《红与黑》《包法利夫人》《追忆似水年华》等中外名著。他是亚洲首位“北极光”杰出文学翻译奖获得者。

Xu was best known for his translations of ancient Chinese poems into English and French that have gained worldwide recognition. He was the first Asian translator to win the Aurora Borealis Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature – one of the highest honors among international translators. Today, more than 100 kinds of Xu's books have been sold at home and abroad.
除了古典文学，许渊冲也曾英译毛主席的诗词。许渊冲的老师钱钟书先生，曾在信中称赞他英译的《毛泽东诗词》：“你带着音韵和节奏的镣铐跳舞，灵活自如，令人惊奇”。
“人生最大的乐趣，就是和喜欢的人在一起，做喜欢做的事；把一个国家创造的美，转化为全世界的美，这是全世界最大的乐趣。” 提起自己一生所追求热爱的翻译事业，许渊冲曾这样说。

"The greatest joy of an individual is to be with the people you like and do what you like to do. The greatest joy on the earth is to introduce the beauty created by a people to the whole world," Xu once said.
2021年百岁生日之时，许渊冲曾接受央视《面对面》采访。当被记者问到有什么生日愿望时，他笑着说，“我现在只要不要死，能够活下去一天，做一天，多做一点贡献，多找点接班人。”
“文化没有止境，人类进步也没有止境。”许渊冲说，“将来就看你们了。我认为可以的。我可以超过前人，后人也可以超过我。”

而在今年“六一”儿童节时，100岁的他是这样寄语后人的：“好上加好，精益求精，不到绝顶，永远不停。”
