The Year of the Rat is nearly here and designers are getting in on the Lunar New Year celebrations.
The likes of LV, Gucci, Etro and Rag & Bone are just some of the fashion brands honoring the Chinese New Year, which takes place on Jan. 25 with special collections inspired by some more-than-familiar rodent characters.
According to the traditional Chinese calendar, January 25 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year and the start of the Year of the Rat. To celebrate, Gucci has unveiled a very literal collection featuring the most famous rodent of the world: Mickey Mouse.
Crafted from porcelain, the Rat Box is a charming way to commemorate the Chinese Year of the Rat. Decorated with Monogram Flowers, a textiles pattern and gold-color detailing, this playful piece can be used as a table centerpiece or to store jewelry. The rat on the top holds a Louis Vuitton Speedy bag for a sweet finishing touch.
Designer Riccardo Tisci presented Burberry's capsule collection for Chinese New Year 2020, that celebrates the Year of the Rat, featuring brand’s codes in vivid shades of red. Fashion photographer Leslie Zhang captured Zhou Dongyu, Liang Jiyuan and He Cong for Burberry‘s Chinese New Year 2020 advertising campaign.
Blancpain's Traditional Chinese Calendar is a watchmaking masterpiece combining the fundamental principles of the age-old lunisolar calendar stemming from Chinese tradition with the date according to the Gregorian calendar. To celebrate Chinese New Year, the Manufacture is unveiling a new limited edition of this Complication featuring the Rat, the first animal of the Chinese zodiac, which heralds a year of luck and prosperity.

Decorated with a lacquered chain and key in red, it also features a rat holding her own Chloé bag rendered in watercolour, which is either arty or creepy, depending on how you look at it.
Off-White is released its Lunar New Year collection on Jan. 8, which includes women’s and men’s wear, including T-shirts, hoodies, sweaters, bucket hats and leather goods. The pieces are designed in black, white and red, printed with the brand’s logo, images of peach flowers and rats and the phrase “Good Luck.”
Etro has teamed with Warner Bros. to create a Lunar New Year collection based on the hit kid’s show, “Tom & Jerry.”
The collection is fittingly dedicated to Jerry, with unisex pieces including dress shirts, sweaters, bags and scarves featuring images of the cartoon mouse over the brand’s well-known paisley print.

Rag & Bone is paying homage to Pizza Rat — a reference to the viral 2015 video of a rat carrying a slice of pizza in the New York City subway — for its Lunar New Year 2020 collection.
Moschino took inspiration from Mickey Rat — the cult-favorite Mickey Mouse parodied cartoon created by Robert Armstrong — for its Lunar New Year collection.
