3月20日，外交部发言人耿爽主持例行记者会，针对美总统特朗普的讲稿将“新冠病毒”改为“中国病毒”，耿爽回应称，近来美方一些人处心积虑地将新冠病毒同中国相联系，不断地对中国搞污名化。中国人民对此强烈愤慨，坚决反对。他们所谓中方不公开、不透明的说法，罔顾事实，颠倒黑白。

耿爽在记者会上向中外记者一一列举中方向美方通报疫情的时间及美方当时的表态。
耿爽表示，中方及时向美方提供信息，开展技术合作。但遗憾的是，就连美国的许多媒体和专家都认为美方浪费挥霍了中方争取来的宝贵时间。
